I scream for ice cream

Saturday, August 8th, 2009

I decided to take it easy this weekend since I am still not well. Luckily ELLE and Vogue arrived last week so there is lots of fun reading to be done, the September issues are big. I also have to plan next week’s holidays in the motherland and would like to start reading Lord Jim again.

After few hours of pottering around the house we decided to pop to Patisserie Macaron to buy bread and check out the new gelateria Nardulli in Clapham. The ice cream was amazing. I have not had better ice cream in London, I swear. I had mango sorbet and hazelnut ice cream, maybe not a great combo but I wanted to test the place and I am going back, hopefully tomorrow!

My mother in law sent me some delicious home made lemon curd and I made lemon tarts today. As usual I overcooked the pastry (I baked it blind for a little before realizing that I don’t need to do that). They were very nice anyway. The pastry is from Jamie Oliver’s first book.

Favorite flowers and a new clock

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

I got a beautiful bunch of hyacinths from my mother in law last weekend, the flowers happily sit in Mr Celery vase, I have a bit of a thing for Sylvac pots and vases. Celery has got its place next to two beetroots and a cucumber pots in the kitchen when it doesn’t serve as an emergency vase.

Last Friday I wandered to Berwick Street Market to get my very fav flowers – peonies. They are in season now and I cannot resist buying them, all colors will do. Really love the fat pretty petals. Ranunculus are second best flowers.

And this is my new purchase, a Swiss eight day clock, very loud alarm. Got it at the Camden Passage a couple of weeks back. So glad I don’t need to be woken up by random text messages in the middle of the night anymore and my mobile can stay in another room for the night.

Got the lost/stolen Vogue at last, along with the new Vogue and Elle. Lots of reading tonight!

Dare to bare…

Friday, May 22nd, 2009

…my legs that is. Yesterday I went out in parachute/harem type trousers and my calves were bare. After a couple of sessions of (self)tanning the color was more acceptable and definitely wouldn’t blind anyone so I decided it was the time. Hoping to get to the seaside this weekend wearing a skirt.

Watched 60 minutes with Anna Wintour, you can see some of it here. Free hair and makeup every day and $200k annual clothing allowance is not bad. Her attitude towards fur still angers me and the program didn’t make me like her either. I find American Vogue really dull, hundreds of pages of advertising, ‘safe’ fashion and overall lack of creativity especially comparing to the British, French or Italian editions.

My Vogue still hasn’t arrived, the new issue was staring at me from ma colleague’s desk, gave in today, had a sneaky flip through. Want Natalia Vodianova’s body!

Such a nice sunny day in London, I am going for a Snog. Have a nice weekend!

PS Getting really annoyed with WordPress, doesn’t let me upload any images, arghh.

PPS Managed to do it after all.

Vogue

I am very annoyed as my June Vogue got lost in the post and they told me it will take up to 28 days(!) to resend it as they are out of stock at the moment. I am going to be so out of fashion. I thought the whole point of having a subscription is to receive it before anyone else, not a month later. This is not the first time this happened either.

Enough complaining, the Guardian has got an interview with the wonderful Carine Roitfeld of French Vogue, read it here. And I have way too many books to read anyway, almost finished The World of Coco Chanel: Friends, Fashion, Fame by Edmonde Charles-Roux. I am enjoing it immensly, it’s very factual, peppered with great photographs and stories about her friends and artistic collaborations.

Found these boots on Toast website, these could be my summer boots since the sun refused to give us any warmth this year.
