The day started nasty, first I got soaked on my way to work, I only had a cardigan at work so changed into it leaving my trousers and shoes wet. Trying to catch a dry spell I went out to get some hot chocolate. On my way back it started to rain again so in order to keep my top dry I started to run, what I didn’t notice is that the sodding chocolate started to spill all over my cardi and jeans! It was not a good look now I was wet and stained. But then I reminded myself that a dress delivery was scheduled for midday so I sucked it up and waited patiently trying to hide behind my laptop.
Anyway, I was going to write about books…
Every now and again I reach what I call a book limbo. This usually happens after eagerly reading a number of books in a close succession. It happened again and I am finding it very hard to get into a new book.
Usually it takes a couple of books that I read mindlessly and then I am back on track.
I started to read Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day, it is a very enjoyable and light read and I know the story already so if I am not paying much attention it won’t be a huge loss. Cold weather somehow gives me a lot of inspiration, an idea of curling up on a sofa with a good book while listening to rain drops and howling winds makes me feel all happy.
I have few books in the pipeline that I am really really looking forward to:
Coco Chanel: The Legend and the Life by Justine Picardie, as far as Coco biographies go this one sounds great
London: The Biography by Peter Ackroyd, I started this book few weeks ago and had to put it away for a bit as I was so busy but I am really looking forward to picking it up again
And then there is the ever growing pile of books I picked at various car boot fairs and charity shops.
I am really behind with films too, I probably missed Coco and Igor, and Inception. The only hope is in the good old Prince Charles Cinema. I also got the BFI London Film Festival catalogue full of interesting films, I will try to catch few.
The good news is that I still have 3 weeks off to use this year, I am about to enter my boss’ office with the request. He might shriek. And I am finishing work on the 31st of November, I decided to take 6 months off, let’s see how it goes.
