Sissinghurst Castle p. two – the veg garden

It’s raining today so why not take myself right back into the sunny and hot vegetable garden at Sissinghurst Estate. Obviously everything grew beautifully, obviously there was no visible slug damage, obviously their dahlias were in full bloom and I, obviously, got very envious.

I got a lot of inspiration from this garden, it looked so vibrant and creative with the triangular beds. The wonderful flowers grown purely for vases and wildlife but still decorating the space beautifully. Tidy rows of veggies and no weeds, lush lawn all around and the view of the oast houses and the castle were spectacular, the garden was on a slope which added a lot to the general feel of it.

Oh I know the feeling of veggie garden envy–I have it every time I visit the fruit and veggie section at Wisley. And one of our fellow allotmenters has put in a triangular raised bed, so I’ll have to tell her about the ones at Sissinghurst! K x

It’s a gorgeous place, isn’t it. My last visit was last year with a then 3 year old in tow, who did not want to do the same things as me. I’d love to go again – but on my own! Did you visit Great Dixter while you were down that way? I’ve been wanting to go there for ages but have yet to make it.

Kristina: I have never been to Wisley, next trip I guess. And your allotment neighbour is a very stylish lady!

Anita: I didn’t go to Great Dixter but I saw a brochure in our B&B and I would love to go! Going with a toddler was not easy, at some stage I had to send Freddie and my husband out for drinks so I could wander around without being pulled. I see you went to Bexhill, we also did go there for a day.
