My favorite ingredients
Inspired by my trip to Petersham Nurseries I was going to purchase A Year in My Kitchen, Skye Gyngell’s first book but I was so busy and distracted I ordered My Favorite Ingredients by accident.
Not a drama.
The book is very good and covers some of my favorite ingredients too, like cherries, mushrooms, nuts, chocolate, pulses and honey.
I tend to try most of the recipes from cook books I buy but only few of them become regular dishes on our menu.
I am off to get some supplies from the shops and cook away. Here are few recipes I am going to start with.
Ribollita
Cherry Clafoutis
Hazelnut tart
Tomato and bread soup
Chocolate and hazelnut cake
The most beautiful salad ever!
Fish with tomato salsa

It’s funny, we buy lots of recipe books and love to look at them, but rarely do we actually do the recipes. We prefer to get inspiration from them and then kind of do our own thing. I know that you can’t really do that with desserts though.

No desserts are all about chemistry but I do like to risk sometimes and replace flour with ground almonds or butter with olive oil. Haven’t had any major disasters so far, fingers crossed ;)
I think you are absolutely right in not following recipes, it can be creative and fun!

Oh…since I’m not the best cook…I follow the recipe to the T. Well, second time doing the same thing I may get little creative but still experimenting in the kitchen is not my thing.
