Detox

Hubby and I have been feeling sluggish and tired, I had yet another cold and back pain. It was time to get healthy again. Since I started to breastfeed I became obsessed with sugar, daily cravings for a tub of ice cream, cake or a whole bar of chocolate made me truly addicted. I have finished breastfeeding in April but the addiction stayed and I continued to stuff myself with sweets. A very very bad habit. It was actually M’s idea to start to eat raw foods. Normally I would make a lot of salads but the cold and rainy spring made me want warm stews, soups and pasta dishes.

So we started a couple of weeks ago going straight into 2 days of raw eating, thumping headaches, muscle pains but after that it was a smooth sail. We decided against the full on detox and became more mindful and careful of what we put into our bodies. We have salads for lunch and dinner with quinoa or short grained brown rice, we will have a slice of cake or ice cream if visiting friends, we still drink coffee, we swapped porridge for soy milk soaked muesli (our own concoction), we eat more fish and less red meat. Unfortunately I have to cook separately for Freddie as he loves pasta, risotto and sausages, and needs the calories but he started to munch on cucumber as his pre-dinner snack.

We did some juicing to get us started but juicing is a bit time consuming so I don’t think we will stick to it. Besides, I much prefer to munch on whole fruit. It’s better for our bodies to process things naturally and not flood our poor stomachs with acidic juices and smoothies, let the enzymes do their work.

This head-on approach got rid of my cold in just a couple of days which was close to a miracle, got rid of the sugar craving entirely, made me crave fresh veg, reduced my coffee intake. No dairy made my skin look much healthier. I am much happier and more energetic, fingers crossed it lasts.

So glad you’re feeling so much better and perky again! I find like you when I do eat plenty of salads and raw fruits and vegetables I really do feel better and at least with the heat I don’t crave warming stews etc so much! Couldn’t give up dairy or coffee and tea though so think you’re really good!
