Happy days

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

I am so lucky to have this amazing weather in the end of October on my week off. I swear, I wore a top and a cardi and I was too hot, it’s that nice. I remember, I was in Naples at this time last year and we had hot summer weather while England was cold and wet.

I must say I did manage to do a lot of things from my ‘to do list’ so I am pretty chuffed with myself.

I photographed a mountain of ebay clothes and hopefully today I will post them. I was very ruthless, all the stuff from my Patrizia Pepe period, the Chloe by Stella ‘take your bananas of my melons’ t-shirt I never wore, the jodhpurs to imitate Balenciaga look from a couple of years ago, the punk Robert Carey Williams tops with tags still attached, all of it is going. If it doesn’t sell it will go to charity shops or I will try to flog it at Bang Bang.

Speaking of Bang Bang, I found my old notebook with the exchange account I thought I lost so I can do a little shopping there.

Bags of stuff went to charity shop.

Dry cleaning done and collected.

Opened a flickr account and uploaded a lot of pictures.

Re-watched Emma on iplayer, finished the book and enjoyed the wit and wisdom of Mr Woodhouse.

Went to Sunbury Antiques as reported previously.

Got a haircut and I love it, my hairdresser Magda is a legend.

Managed to make a pretty good list of things to do in Paris, week and a half to go!

Celebrated hubby’s birthday and managed to consume an enormous Black Forest gateau which my brother in law kindly baked, it was spectacular.

Went to see Revolution on Paper: Mexican Prints 1910-1960 at British Museum. It was very interesting, amazing prints by Diego Riviera, Angel Brancho, Galo Galecio, Leopoldo Mendez, Amador Lugo and Jose Guadalupe Posada to name a few. I was very impressed by all the works, Posada in particular with his strong imagery and wit. The exhibition is for free and really worth a visit.

Went to see Sacred Made Real: Spanish Painting and Sculpture 1600-1700 which was rather disappointing. There were very few objects on show and it definitely wasn’t worth £8. I really hate coming out of an exhibition feeling underwhelmed and ripped off. The sculptures were impressive – wooden and very realistic looking, almost grotesque, with ivory teeth and glass eyes, real robes painted over with glue, all very gory. The paintings were not the best representation of the artists (Velazques and Zarbaran in most cases), they were matched up with the sculptures. Everything was displayed in dark rooms with very little light almost to imitate church environment. I should have known better not to go, they reviewed the show on The Culture Show and, I think, managed to present all the exhibits in it.

After visiting the aforementioned show at National Gallery, which btw is one of my favorite galleries in London so double disappointed, I planned to go to London Transport Museum but was bit tired and cycled home. I really should have gone because today I came across Art Deco Icons program on BBC4 and it looks absolutely amazing with all the posters and trains. I will definitely go soon.

And after reading too many blogs I have a slight obsession with these Isabel Marant boots, le sigh…

Sunbury Antiques Market

Yesterday I visited one of my favorite places – Sunbury Antiques Market also known as Kempton Park Antiques. It’s a mere 44 minutes train ride from central London and takes place every 2nd and last Tuesday of the month.

It is truly overwhelming, from furniture, taxidermy, crockery to fabrics, toys and hardware you can find everything there. It’s not as cheap as car boot sales – the sellers are more professional and the standard of antiques is really high but it is definitely miles away from London shop prices and you can strike a real bargain.
